Updating this bike with Bikepackers Foundry bags has been a fun little project. Looking forward to getting out with Sara as this bike is a good fit for her.
Kona Muni Mula rigged for bikepacking with a blend of DIY and Bikepackers Foundry luggage. A fun and very capable bike to ride!. As pictured, loaded for an overnighter with no need for a backpack.
The SeatBag, FenderBag, and HandlebarRoll all utilize BikepackersFoundry custom Voile straps that provide for rapid installation and removal. The DIY frame bag is a mix of X-Pac VX42 and 1000D Cordura and contains a stove system, fuel, food, and water. The downtube FenderBag holds spares, pump, tools, and a MSR Carbon Reflex 1 tent. The top tube has a pair of XL Straddlebags with a BottleCradle on top. The BottleCradle has a custom DIY bridge over the three cables running along the top of the frame. The bike is a c1999 Kona Muni Mula purchased new from our LBS The Bicycle Cafe in Canmore. It’s been ridden in numerous places in western North America, including sections of the GDMBR, Trans Canada Trail, and BC Epic route; and many kilometers of single track around home. Since 2013 it’s primarily been ridden as a bikepacking rig by friends and family. It was featured as a low-cost bikepacking example at the 2018 Bikepack Canada Summit. The cable routing on the handlebars does not allow for a large bag underneath. An underslung Seal Line hip pack holds a down hooded jacket and other keep-dry items. On top is the 0 Celcius sleep system in a variable volume HandlebarRoll. Capable of holding everything from a complete -30 sleep system to a single puff coat. A pair of StraddleBags are mounted to the back of the Jones Loop as an alternative to feedbags that reduce knee room. The Seatbag allows full use of the suspension seat post and contains full rain gear and clothing.
